Guildford Seniors Village, located in Surrey, is a residence for elderly individuals. The facility faced significant challenges due to excessive solar heat, particularly in the common areas.
Overview
The common areas were overheating due to the large quantity of windows, especially in the hallways. This would cause the hot air to flow into the individual rooms therefore causing the A/C to work overtime.
Challenge
To address the heat issue, a Reflective window film (R20) was installed throughout the facility in the common areas. This film effectively reduces glare, enhances privacy, and significantly decreases the amount of solar heat entering the building.
Solution
Improved Comfort: The installation of the window film led to a noticeable reduction in indoor temperature, creating a more comfortable living environment for the residents.
Temperature Reduction: The film substantially lowered the temperature in the affected areas, reducing the dependence on the HVAC system.
Energy Efficiency: The decreased load on the HVAC system resulted in lower energy consumption and reduced wear and tear on the system, extending its lifespan.
